Monique Johnson is an artist and illustrator based out of the San Bernardino mountain range in Southern California specializing in figurative art and portraiture.
She apprenticed under renowned sculptor Lawrence Noble while in high school. She later obtained her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Laguna College of Art and Design and her Master’s of Fine Arts in Illustration from California State University, Fullerton.
Her work ranges widely from traditional media to digital painting, primarily focussing on the human face. Her portraiture captures the individuality of each face, bringing timeless life to each subject.
While attending California State University, Fullerton she was a long-term resident at Grand Central Art Center in downtown Santa Ana. She was a frequent exhibitor for First Staturday’s Art Walk and created film posters for The Frida Cinema during special premiers. She has also published several works with Printed in Blood and shows her work in fairs all over Southern California. She has exhibited in several group shows including the Richard Nixon Library and Western Kentucky Museum.
She is an art instructor and has taught in Tennessee, Kentucky, and California at universities and junior colleges, passing on her passion to the next generation of students.
